In Greece
mandatory conscription still exists. It takes advantage of the countries youth
as a cheap labor force in order to maintain the Greek Capitalist interests and
strengthen their place among the peripheral competition.
With the
outbreak of the capitalistic crisis came a never seen before attack to every
aspect of daily life. A fraction of this can be seen in the living conditions
of the conscripts who have to cope with already harsh conditions. Now the
army services denies them the needed clothing and food with poor families who's
sons have been enlisted growing in despair in a country where unemployment and
poverty are still rising.
In these
conditions the Network of Free Conscripts Spartacus pleads for the creation of
a movement both in and out the ranks of the army, for the free syndicalism and
organization of conscripts against any atrocity which wants them to be “disposable”,
cannon fodder and treats them as trash. To any one who sees in them an army of
butchers who impose their interests with war.
The
Greek state in
order to stop our winning efforts which are embraced from the people in and out
the army barracks is putting on trial a member of the Network. Our Network
member is been charged for slander after publishing the gruesome conditions of
an army camp at our Internet blog ( http://diktiospartakos.blogspot.gr/ ) . The publication was made after a
conscript wrote a letter to the Network describing the appalling conditions
they had to live with.
