YJA STAR (Free Women's Troops) guerrilla Kevser Eltürk, who recently lost her life in a clash with Turkish soldiers in Varto, has been laid to rest by women.

YJA STAR (Free Women's Troops) guerrilla Kevser Eltürk, who recently lost her life in a clash with Turkish soldiers in Varto, has been laid to rest by women, who carried her body to the cemetery on their shoulders after undertaking the religious duties for her.

YJA STAR guerrilla Kevser Eltürk, nom de guerre Ekin Wan, who lost her life in a clash with Turkish soldiers in Varto district of Muş on August 10, has been laid to rest by women in Yenimahalle Martyrs’ Cemetery in İpekyolu district of Van. The body of Eltürk was accompanied to the cemetery by a large convoy of vehicles this morning after which women carried her on their shoulders to the cemetery.

During the march to the cemetery, the crowd frequently chanted the slogans “Long Live leader Apo”, “Martyrs are immortal” and “PKK is the people, and the people are here”, while also carrying the posters of the Kurdish leader Öcalan and the flags of the PKK, KCK, YPG and the HPG.

Alongside a large group of women, HDP Van deputies, DBP, HDP provincial and district branch executives, co-mayors and thousands of others attended the ceremony held at the cemetery.

Speaking at the funeral, DBP Van branch co-chair Hamiyet Şahin said Eltürk died for a the honour and dignity of the Kurdish people, pointing out that the AKP government bears the responsibility for all the deaths in the country.

YJA Star guerrilla's brother Abdullah Eltürk told that his sister had joined the PKK because she could not bear the cruelty imposed on the Kurdish people and added that his sister died for the honour of the her people.

Following the speeches the crowd went to the tent set up in Karşıyaka neighbourhood for condolence visits to the family of the YJA Star guerrilla.
