Syrian Army troops withdraw from Manbij border positions opposite Turkey-backed rebel lines – Reports
BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:35 A.M.) – There exists reports from Syrian conflict observers that border troops of the Syrian Arab Army and National Defence Forces have begun to withdraw from their positions west of Manbij.
In the last 24 hours, reports – mostly based on rumor – have begun to emerge that Syrian Army and pro-government paramilitary troops are withdrawing from their border positions opposite the lines of Turkey-backed rebels in the countryside west of Manbij city.
The reports arise at a time when the Turkish Army and Free Syrian Army-linked militias under its command are now in the heat of major military operation against Kurdish forces in Syria’s Afrin region.
In March 2017, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (of which Kurdish units form a core component) handed over a number of villages in Manbij city’s western countryside to the control of Syrian Army and paramilitary border units.
The hand-over was part of an agreement brokered between Moscow and Washington aimed at deterring an attack on Manbij by Turkey-led forces which Ankara was threatening at the time.https://www.almasdarnews.com
