POLICE AND AMONG REFUGEES /// ANOTHER ELECTROCUTION ON RAILWAY TRACKS, YOUNG MOROCCAN MAN DEAD /// NGOs, INCLUDING UNHCR, LEFT IDOMENI CAMP LAST NIGHT, LEAVING ONLY INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS TO HELP 6,000 STRANDED PEOPLE /// REFUGEES WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CROSS THE BORDER ARE ASKED TO LEAVE IDOMENI
.
‪#‎GREECE‬: Very bad news from ‪#‎Idomeni‬ because of the chaotic and violent situation caused by racial and ethnic profiling and dividing of refugees. The border is open at the moment, but it was closed for everyone most of the day. Problems started early this morning, when the border was closed following clashes between different groups of refugees and police, with only a short reopening between 7PM and 8PM (8PM and 9PM local time). People who were denied crossing made a human chain to ensure safe passage of Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees at 7PM (8PM local time), but the Macedonian side decided to close the border just after protester's blockade was over and first people have made it through the border crossing. At 20.30PM, there were 2,000 people in front of the closed gate. A lot of families and small children in the mass. At 21.30, the passage was granted to those who were waiting and we are hoping it will stay this way despite very tense situation in Idomeni. Massive police presence is reported on both sides of the border.
.
Earlier today, Greek special unit has surrounded the protesters which were blocking the crossing. Massive tear gas/pepper spray actions were imposed against protesters who tried to reach the enclosed groups at the fence. After clashes between "acceptable refugees" and "economic migrants", hundreds of Syrians had to wait on the field beside the camp. Official structure has collapsed after "economic migrants" took control over some parts of Camp A (the official camp formerly managed by large NGOs, it coexisted with a smaller camp organized by independent volunteers). Last night, when the situation turned more tense than ever, most of the NGOs, including UNHCR and SAVE THE CHILDREN left Idomeni camp, yet lots of people were still arriving and need blankets and food - only independent volunteers stayed and still continue to provide help. Lots of people slept outdoors with no blankets or food. Also, lots of buses arrived during the night - according to some reports there are 6,000 people on site at the moment, with more police force coming. Situation remained very tense throughout the day.
.
Many buses on their way to Idomeni are now being stopped by the police at an abandoned petrol station in ‪#‎Evzonoi‬, 2km from Idomeni. From there several hundred people are walking on the highway to go to Idomeni. With all of the newcomers, the camp is extending to the fields nearby. Facilities in the camp are trashed due to entire day of fighting, so hundreds, if not thousands, will have to spend the night on a cold ground. Free trains from Idomeni to ‪#‎Athens‬ are provided for all of the refugees who are not alowed to cross the border. The first train departed from the railway station in the back at 1.15PM, carrying 70 refugees to Thessaloniki and Athens. Police is advising people to take the trains and leave Idomeni for good. Unofficially, they will have three days to evacuate. Police will be harsh to those who disobey. At the moment, lots of them still don't want to leave Idomeni.
.
An 22 year old man of Moroccan nationality was electrocuted on the railway this morning, leaving him dead on the spot. This is a second case of electrocution in just a few days. Unsafe routes and inhuman treatment of our fellow human beings is taking its tolls.

Financial Times reports that Greece rejected the 400 Frontex staff, which is one of the reasons they are being pressured with the threat of being dropped from Schengen, but Frontex nevertheless announced it's arrival to Greek borders.
.
‪#‎MACEDONIA‬: The ‪#‎Gevgelija‬ camp was empty during the day since the GR-MK border was closed. After reopening of the border crossing, 2.500 people are expected to enter Macedonia during the night. Macedonian and international NGO's say they are ready to accept large groups of people. Yesterday, those who managed to cross the border illegally were given their right to seek asylum in Macedonia.
.
‪#‎SERBIA‬: In ‪#‎Dimitrovgrad‬, people who are still arriving to this border crossing (around 400 every day), are faced with cold weather and incredible risks (prison, police brutality and push backs to Turkey) on their way through ‪#‎BULGARIA‬. Most of them arrive here by foot, walking for up to 5 days through the forest without any food or shelter and always scared to meet Bulgarian border patrol who is taking them back to Bulgarian detention camps. Most of the people arriving here are young men, but we also had families with kids and babies. The volunteers have started a fundraising campaign to buy winter clothing for Refugees in Dimitrovgrad. In ‪#‎Belgrade‬, InfoPark is seeking a translator for Farsi (Dari, Pashtu) for field work as well as for Belgrade Info Park operation - send your CV via message to Info Park FB. In ‪#‎Preševo‬ and ‪#‎Miratovac‬, some volunteers report that the refugees who are driven by taxis and smugglers, apart from being charged highly above the real price, also receive wrong information from the smugglers on not needing to register on their way, which can cause serious problems at the Serbian-Croatian border. The team in Preševo is working on this problem, and we are using this opportunity to warn all our refugee friends to be aware that they NEED TO REGISTER IN PREŠEVO/MIRATOVAC.. Refugees coming to Preševo need shoes, especially men’s shoes (no. 40-43).
.
‪#‎CROATIA‬: In the reception camp in ‪#‎SlavonskiBrod‬ there were 1,106 people at 9:00 AM. From midnight to 9:00 AM, 2,197 refugees entered the country. According to the reports by the Centre for Peace Studies, stay in the camp is very short. Tea, warm clothes and packed lunches are provided to the refugees in the transit. There is also medical aid available as well as assistance from volunteers who speak Arabic and Farsi.
.
‪#‎SLOVENIA‬: At 6:00 AM today, there were 465 people in the transit centre‪#‎DobovaLivarna‬, 3 in ‪#‎Šentilj‬ and 85 in ‪#‎Postojna‬. 500 people have left the country today, and crossed to Austrian territory. In ‪#‎Dobova‬, the Red Cross distributes food to every group and a Slovak medical team is present in the camp. Our volunteers were also in Dobova yesterday night; they managed to give out jackets to the refugees who needed them. There is a lack of shoes, especially for adults. The recommendation for the volunteers who bring shoes to this location is to ask the camp staff to share it directly on the spot to the people who need them.
